Origin Story

In Tang Dynasty, a poet named Li Bai who loved traveling around mountains and water discovered strange traces on the ground while walking in the wild one day. After careful observation, he found that these traces were like spider silk and horse hoofprints. He secretly pondered in his heart: What is this left by? So he followed the traces and finally found a hidden cave. In the cave was a huge spider and a steed. It turned out that this spider and steed were the mounts of the monsters in the cave, they often came out to make trouble, so they left these clues. Li Bai, resourceful and brave, fought against the monsters with his sword for three hundred rounds, and finally subdued them, saving the nearby people. From then on, there were no more monsters making trouble nearby. Later people used "蛛丝马迹" to refer to vague traces and clues left by things.
