During the Eastern Jin Dynasty, Xie An resigned from his official post and retired to Mount Dongshan in Kuaiji. He often drank and wrote poetry with his friends, living a leisurely life. Later, the army of the Former Qin marched south, and the Eastern Jin Dynasty was in jeopardy. The court sent someone to ask Xie An to come out of retirement, and he resolutely accepted the mission, led his army to victory in the Battle of Fei Shui, and ultimately defended the Eastern Jin Dynasty.
