话说唐朝时,有个书生叫王冕,从小家境贫寒,靠着放牛为生。王冕聪明好学,但因为没有钱读书,只能利用放牛的时间,在草地上读书。有一次,王冕在放牛的时候,遇到一位老先生,老先生看到王冕勤奋好学的样子,便主动教他读书。王冕很感激老先生的教诲,学习更加刻苦。几年后,王冕终于考上了秀才,他决心继续努力,考取功名。然而,在参加乡试的时候,王冕却意外落榜了。王冕受到打击,一蹶不振,从此郁郁寡欢。
