Origin Story
In the turbulent Jin Dynasty, plagued by internal strife and external threats, Emperor Min of Jin, Sima Ye, recently ascended the throne, decided to hold a grand celebration to stabilize the hearts of the people. However, his chancellor, Sima Rui, expressed concerns. Sima Rui's chief clerk, Xiong Yuan, went further and submitted a letter advising Emperor Min against the celebration. He argued that the extravagance of a grand celebration was inappropriate during the country's crisis. He advocated that the emperor should share the people's hardships and only through upholding righteousness and morality could he win the hearts of the people and earn their support. Xiong Yuan suggested promoting loyalty, filial piety, justice, and morality to unite people and stabilize the social order. Sima Rui agreed with Xiong Yuan's views and submitted the memorial to Emperor Min. After careful consideration, Emperor Min accepted Xiong Yuan's advice and canceled plans for the grand celebration. He understood that gaining the people's support was the cornerstone of national stability, and only by following the will of the people could he avoid the downfall of the country.
