Origin Story

During the Jiajing period of the Ming Dynasty, Shandong province suffered from consecutive years of drought, leaving the people with nothing to eat and living in poverty.Heavy taxes and levies were the last straw that broke the camel’s back, completely infuriating the suffering people. The once peaceful villages were now filled with complaints and resentment, with the public anger boiling over. In the dead of night, people could hear suppressed sobs and angry curses. The county magistrate had long turned a blind eye to this, continuing to live a life of debauchery and squandering public funds. Finally, the people, unable to bear it any longer, rose up in rebellion, a large-scale peasant uprising erupting. Although this uprising ultimately failed, it also awakened those tyrannical rulers: the people’s anger, once ignited, is unstoppable.
