Origin Story
During the Tang Dynasty, a young poet named Li Bai aspired to become a great poet. He knew, however, that his talent and effort alone weren't enough; he needed to learn from his predecessors and absorb their strengths. He began reading widely, from Qu Yuan's Li Sao to Tao Yuanming's Drinking Wine, from Du Fu's profound and powerful style to Wang Wei's poetic and picturesque imagery. He carefully studied each work, savoring its essence. He learned not only poetic technique but the spiritual realm and intellectual depth of these poets. He learned from Du Fu his patriotic and compassionate spirit, from Wang Wei his carefree detachment, and from Tao Yuanming his tranquil retreat to rural life. He absorbed and integrated the best from various sources, eventually developing his unique poetic style and becoming one of the greatest poets of the Tang Dynasty.
