In the Tang Dynasty, there was a talented scholar named Li Bai who, despite his extraordinary talent, repeatedly failed the imperial examinations and was frustrated. One day, while traveling to a remote village, he encountered a reclusive old man. The old man, noticing Li Bai's noble bearing, engaged him in conversation about poetry and literature. Li Bai recited poems he had accumulated over many years; the old man showered him with praise, predicting great things for him. Li Bai was moved but worried about his uncertain future. The old man smiled gently and said, “A true man should stand between heaven and earth; how can he only care about petty advantages? You harbor grand ambitions; in the future, you will surely reap both fame and fortune.” Inspired, Li Bai studied even harder. Eventually, his poems spread throughout the land, bringing him fame and high social standing, as well as substantial material rewards. He finally achieved his dream of gaining both fame and fortune.
