Once upon a time, in a small mountain village, lived a respected elder. He spent his life being kind and generous, always treating others with magnanimity. The villagers often quarreled over trivial matters, but the elder always patiently persuaded them to understand each other and be tolerant. One day, two young men had a violent dispute over the boundary of their fields, even resorting to physical violence. Villagers worried the situation would escalate, but the two refused to yield. Then, the old man slowly came with his cane. He did not rebuke the young men but gently said, “Children, the land is important, but the relationship between people is more important. Why should you spoil your harmony for such a small matter? Let me give you some of my land, so you won’t quarrel anymore.” The old man’s magnanimity moved everyone, and the two young men ashamedly lowered their heads, finally shaking hands and making peace. From then on, the villagers respected the elder more and valued the harmony between neighbors, making the village more harmonious and peaceful.
