尽善尽美 jin shan jin mei perfect

Explanation

指完美到没有一点缺点。

It means perfect without any flaws.

Origin Story

Chunqiu shiqi, Lu guo de Kongzi weile taobian zhanluan taodao Qi guo. Zai nar, ta tingdaole Qi guo zui meimiao de yinyue 《Shao》 he 《Wu》. Ta ting hou haojitian lian chi rou dou ganjue budao rou de weidao, bing zixizai fenbie liangzhe de qubie. Ta shuo 《Shao》 feichang wanmei, dachendale jinshanjinmei de jingjie, er 《Wu》 suiran ye hen youmei, que liuo sun yi chou, hai meiyou dachendale jinshanjinmei de chengdu. Zhege gushi shuomming, jinshanjinmei shi yizhong ji gao de biaozhun, jishi shi youxiu de yishu zuopin, ye keneng cunzai buzu zhi chu. Houren jiang zhege diangu yin shen wei dui wanmei jingjie de zhuiqiu, ye yonglai xingrong jiyi jingzhan, zuopin wanmei wu que.

During the Spring and Autumn Period, Confucius of Lu fled to Qi to escape the war. There, he heard the most wonderful music of Qi, "Shao" and "Wu". After listening, for several days he could not even feel the taste of meat, and carefully distinguished the differences between the two. He said that "Shao" was perfect, reaching the state of perfection, while "Wu", although also very beautiful, was slightly inferior and had not yet reached the state of perfection. This story shows that perfection is a very high standard, and even excellent works of art may have shortcomings. Later generations extended this allusion to the pursuit of a perfect state, and also used it to describe superb craftsmanship and flawless works.
