Origin Story
During the Warring States period, there was a famous general named Wu Qi in the Wei kingdom. He was very talented and highly respected by Duke Wen of Wei. But Wu Qi was an upright and incorruptible man, which offended many nobles. To protect their own interests, these nobles began to constantly slander Wu Qi to Duke Wen, claiming that Wu Qi was autocratic, forming cliques, pursuing private interests, and excluding dissidents. Duke Wen initially didn't believe them, but the nobles continuously exerted pressure, and Duke Wen gradually wavered. Ultimately, Wu Qi was killed by Duke Wen, and the Wei kingdom consequently lost an excellent general. This story illustrates the dangers of excluding dissidents; it not only harms talent but also can lead to the downfall of a nation.
