Describes writing or speech as forceful and impressive.
Origin Story
It is said that the Tang Dynasty poet Li Bai, one day while traveling through the mountains and rivers, came to a beautiful waterfall. He was so moved by the magnificent scenery that he spontaneously began to write a poem. After finishing, he contentedly threw the manuscript to the ground. A loud "dong" echoed through the air as the manuscript landed – as clear and resonant as the sound of gold and stone. Everyone present was astonished. This is the origin of the idiom "zhì dì yǒu shēng" (掷地有声), which describes how Li Bai's poems are as magnificent, moving, and memorable as this waterfall.
