During the prosperous Tang Dynasty, households in Chang'an city decorated their homes with lights and lanterns to celebrate the Yuanxiao Festival. The imperial palace was especially brightly lit, with countless colorful lanterns hanging from the palace buildings. From afar, they looked like fiery trees, radiant and dazzling; and the palace walls illuminated by the lights resembled blooming silver flowers, a beautiful sight. That night, Chang'an city transformed into a sea of lights, with glittering lights everywhere, and people celebrated joyfully until late into the night.
