During the Warring States period in ancient China, the king of Qi, Tian Wen (King Wei of Qi), appointed Tian Ji as his general. Tian Ji advocated expansion of territory and militarism, launching many wars. As a result, Qi's national strength was greatly weakened, and the people's lives became impoverished. Later, King Wei of Qi realized the error of his militaristic ways and began to focus on people's livelihood and economic development, eventually making Qi a powerful country, one of the seven strongest states in the Warring States period.
