Origin Story

唐朝武则天时期，有个酷吏叫周兴，他发明了很多残酷的刑法来折磨犯人。后来，有人告发周兴谋反。武则天派另一个酷吏来俊臣去调查。来俊臣想试探周兴，就请他喝酒，并问他对付犯人的方法。周兴得意洋洋地描述了他用大瓮烧火逼供的酷刑。来俊臣听后，立刻让人准备一个大瓮，并用火烧热。然后对周兴说："有人告发你谋反，请你进去解释一下。"周兴这才明白自己中了圈套，吓得立刻认罪伏法。

During the Tang Dynasty under Empress Wu Zetian, there was a cruel official named Zhou Xing who invented many cruel methods to torture prisoners. Later, someone accused Zhou Xing of rebellion. Empress Wu sent another cruel official, Lai Junchen, to investigate. Lai Junchen wanted to test Zhou Xing, so he invited him to drink and asked him about his methods of dealing with prisoners. Zhou Xing smugly described his cruel torture method of using a large pot to burn prisoners. After Lai Junchen listened, he immediately had a large pot prepared and heated it with fire. Then he said to Zhou Xing: "There has been an accusation of rebellion against you, please go in and explain.". Zhou Xing only then realized he had fallen into a trap, and immediately confessed and submitted.
