Origin Story

In the Tang Dynasty, a poet named Li Bai was invited to a grand banquet. During the banquet, he enthusiastically recounted his travels through the mountains and rivers. He had originally intended to impress the guests with brilliant poems but unwittingly fell into a long-winded narrative. He described at length the magnificence of the landscape, the minute details of the scenery, and the various adventures along the way. He even counted the petals of wild roadside flowers one by one, completely unaware of the passage of time or the increasingly impatient expressions of his guests. Ultimately, his long and detailed account did not win any praise and only resulted in yawns from the guests and a dull atmosphere. Li Bai later realized his mistake: long-winded speeches often fail to capture the audience's attention; concise and refined expression is better at conveying thought and emotion.
