During the Spring and Autumn Period, the King of Wu, Helü, invited Sun Wu to his palace to explain the „Art of War“ and to practice it personally. Sun Wu had the king select 180 women from the palace to form two teams, each led by one of the king's favorite concubines. However, the palace women refused to obey his commands. Sun Wu had the two women beheaded because they refused to listen to the orders of the commander-in-chief.
