It is said that during the Tang Dynasty, a famous doctor named Li Shizhen was developing a new anesthetic. This anesthetic could make people completely lose consciousness for a short time without causing any harm to the body. In order to test the efficacy of the drug, Li Shizhen asked his assistant Xiao Zhang to take it first. After taking the medicine, Xiao Zhang immediately lost consciousness and remained motionless like a statue. Li Shizhen carefully observed Xiao Zhang's various vital signs and found that everything was normal, so he proceeded with the next experiment with peace of mind. After a few hours, the effect of the medicine gradually subsided, Xiao Zhang slowly woke up, and recalled everything that had just happened. He was very surprised and greatly admired Li Shizhen's medical skills. From then on, the anesthetic developed by Li Shizhen was widely circulated among the people, relieving countless patients of pain and benefiting the people in the region.
