以管窥天 to peep at the sky through a bamboo pipe
Explanation
It means to have a narrow viewpoint and see only part of the situation.
Origin Story
During the Spring and Autumn period, Bian Que, a famous physician from Qi, passed through the state of Guo and heard that the Crown Prince had suddenly died. He went to visit and, after inquiring about the symptoms, judged that the prince was only apparently dead and could be revived. But the senior official of Guo did not believe him, so Bian Que said that he was "looking at the sky through a bamboo pipe," lacking insight. The official was unconvinced, so Bian Que used acupuncture on the Crown Prince, who indeed revived. After treatment, he recovered fully in twenty days. This story shows that it's important to consider problems comprehensively and not to jump to conclusions, or serious mistakes might happen.
