动辄：立刻，马上；得咎：受到责备、惩罚。指做事稍有不慎，就会遭到批评或责难。
Dongzhe: immediately; Dejiu: to be blamed or punished.It means that if you do something, you will easily be criticized or blamed if you are not careful.
Origin Story
韩愈是唐代著名的文学家，他一生刚正不阿，为国为民，敢于直言。他曾任监察御史，因直言敢谏，触怒权贵，屡遭贬谪。一次，他上书直言进谏，皇帝虽赞赏他的才华和勇气，但碍于朝中势力，最终还是将他贬官。韩愈在被贬途中，不禁感叹道：“跋前踬后，动辄得咎”，表达了在仕途上步履维艰的无奈与苦闷。他并非不想周全，但正直的性格让他难以在复杂的官场中游刃有余，即使小心谨慎，也难免会因直言而受到责难。
Han Yu was a famous writer of the Tang Dynasty. Throughout his life, he was upright and incorruptible, working for the country and the people, and daring to speak his mind. He once served as an inspector, and because of his outspokenness and courageous advice, he angered the powerful, and was repeatedly demoted. Once, he wrote a letter to openly advise the emperor, and although the emperor admired his talent and courage, he was still demoted because of the power in the court. On the way to his demotion, Han Yu couldn't help but sigh, "跋前踬后，动辄得咎", expressing the helplessness and depression of his difficult career path. It's not that he didn't want to be careful, but his upright nature made it difficult for him to be at ease in the complex officialdom, and even if he was careful, he would inevitably be criticized for speaking his mind.
Usage
动辄得咎通常用来形容一个人做事容易出错，或容易招致批评和责备。
“Dongzhe Dejiu” is usually used to describe a person who is prone to making mistakes, or who is easily criticized and blamed.
