Nan Ke Yi Meng South Ke Dream

Explanation

Metaphor for an empty joy or a great dream.

Origin Story

Once upon a time, in the Tang Dynasty, there was a man named Chun Yu Tong. One day, he fell asleep under a large pagoda tree in his garden and had a dream. In his dream, he went to a country called Huai'an, was appointed governor of Nan Ke County, married a beautiful princess, and lived a rich and happy life. After twenty years, the kingdom of Tan Luo attacked and Chun Yu Tong was defeated and expelled from Huai'an. When he awoke, he found himself still under the pagoda tree, realizing it had all been a dream. This story later became the idiom “Nan Ke Yi Meng”, used to describe an unreal dream or an empty joy.
