Origin Story
In ancient China, there were two young men with great ambitions: Li Bai and Du Fu. They met in Chang'an and shared a yearning for a glorious age of poetry. In Chang'an they devoted themselves to the study of literature, encouraging each other and together traveling famous mountains and rivers, admiring the great natural beauty of their homeland. Their personalities and goals were different, however. Li Bai was free and unrestrained, aspiring to fame and success and wanting to use his talents. Du Fu was calm and modest and was more concerned with the plight of the people. He wanted to reflect reality in his poetry. After their studies, they went their separate ways. Li Bai traveled around the country, indulged in the beauty of nature and wrote many free and elegant poems. Du Fu went among the people, experienced the suffering of the common people and created many poems reflecting the social realities of his time. Although their paths were different, both men made a great contribution to Chinese poetry. Their story shows that everyone has their own dreams and goals. If one adheres to one's beliefs, one can succeed in one's field.
