In the Tang Dynasty, there was a poet named Li Bai who was overcome with grief and longing for his hometown. He sat alone by the river, gazing at the flowing water, his heart filled with endless homesickness. He thought of the mountains and rivers of his home, the people, every plant and tree, and tears welled up in his eyes. He tried to compose a poem to express his emotions but his sorrow was so profound that he could only speak in choked sobs, his tears flowing freely. His heart-wrenching display of grief moved everyone present. Later, people used the term "Shēnglèi jùfā" to describe a scene of extreme sorrow.
