Once upon a time, there was a greedy magistrate who, in order to consolidate his position, often used small favors to win over the people. He would give the poor some rice and noodles during festivals, or give passers-by some small change on the roadside. These small favors, though insignificant, made many people grateful to him and consider him a good official. However, this was merely a superficial act. His true nature was corrupt and oppressive. He used his position to exploit the people and enrich himself. Those who received his small favors were unaware of the many bad things he did in secret. Until one day, the magistrate's corruption was exposed, and the people suddenly realized that they had been deceived all along. They regretted being blinded by small favors and failing to see the magistrate's true nature. This story teaches us not to be fooled by appearances and to see the essence of things.
