Origin Story
When Emperor Gaozu of Han returned victoriously after his campaign against the Xiongnu, he stopped at the mansion of King Zhang Ao of Zhao. Liu Bang was arrogant and treated Zhang Ao badly. Zhang Ao could only endure it. Zhang Ao's guard, Guan Gao, plotted to assassinate Liu Bang. The plot was exposed, and Liu Bang arrested Zhang Ao and Guan Gao. At this time, a minister named Tian Shu pleaded for Zhang Ao. His reasoning was clear, and his eloquence was superb. Even Liu Bang admired his abilities and believed that there was no one in the court who could compare to him. Tian Shu's courage and wisdom impressed Liu Bang, and eventually saved Zhang Ao. Since then, “wú chū qí yòu” has been used to describe Tian Shu's outstanding talent which is unmatched.
