Origin Story

Once upon a time, in a bustling city, there lived a rich merchant named Wang Fugui. Wang Fugui had been spoiled with wealth since he was a child, and he developed an arrogant and conceited personality. He often boasted about his wealth and looked down upon those who were poorer than him. One day, Wang Fugui went on an outing to the suburbs, and on the way he met a beggar who asked him for money. Wang Fugui, however, treated him with disdain and mocked him, saying: “You are so poor, and you still want money? It's ridiculous!” The beggar shook his head in dismay and said: “I may be poor, but I have a kind heart, unlike you, who are swimming in riches but have a cruel heart.” Wang Fugui was unhappy to hear this. He loudly rebuked the beggar, saying: “You are just a beggar, how dare you talk to me about my heart? I tell you, I, Wang Fugui, can do whatever I want, nobody can tell me what to do!” The beggar smiled at his arrogance and said: “A person should not only care about himself, he must learn to help others. Your arrogance will ultimately lead to everyone abandoning you.” Wang Fugui ignored the beggar's words and continued to live a life of luxury and extravagance. But fortune soon turned against him: An unexpected disaster struck Wang Fugui. A fire destroyed his property and Wang Fugui became a pauper overnight. Only then did Wang Fugui realize that the beggar's words were true. He had been arrogant and selfish and had lost everything. From then on, Wang Fugui dared not be arrogant anymore. He became humble and helpful and eventually earned the respect of the people.
