Xiāzi mō xiàng Blind men and the elephant

Explanation

A metaphor for the lack of understanding of the whole thing, drawing wrong conclusions from only partial and one-sided understanding.

Origin Story

It is said that a long time ago, there were several blind men who had never seen an elephant before. One day, they heard that an elephant had arrived nearby and became curious to touch it. They went to the elephant and each touched a different part. One touched the elephant's leg and said the elephant was like a pillar; one touched the elephant's ear and said the elephant was like a fan; one touched the elephant's tail and said the elephant was like a rope. None of them could convince the others, and finally, they quarreled.
