In the late Sui Dynasty, when the country was in chaos and many leaders were vying for power, a rebel leader named Zhang Jiao led hundreds of thousands of peasants in a massive uprising. Under the banner of “The Heavenly God is dead, the Yellow Heaven should ascend”, they plundered and murdered, committing terrible crimes. The people suffered, and complaints were everywhere. Zhang Jiao’s cruelty enraged the court, and eventually he was defeated by imperial troops. But the Yellow Turban Rebellion brought great suffering to the people and marked a cruel page in history.
