A pure heart, describes a heart that is free from greed and envy, that is not influenced by fame and fortune, pure as ice. It is often used to describe a person's noble character, pure heart, and unmoved by external influences.
Origin Story
During the Tang Dynasty, poet Wang Changling repeatedly suffered setbacks in his official career. He offended powerful families and was repeatedly demoted. However, he still comforted himself with the purity of his heart, determined not to join those people in their corrupt practices. In his poem "Farewell to Xin Jian at Fuchong Tower", he expresses these feelings: “Cold rain fills the river, night falls on Wu, In the morning I see my friend off, lonely on Mount Chu. If friends in Luoyang ask, tell them this: My heart is pure as jade in a water jug.” This poem describes the poet's farewell to his friend Xin Jian, who was being sent away to the frontier. It expresses the poet's determination to maintain his integrity in adversity. Although he suffered setbacks in his official career, he still maintained his noble character, unstained by the world. This is a true reflection of "a pure heart".
