Origin Story
从前，有个秀才，寒窗苦读多年，终于考中了举人。乡邻们都为他高兴，纷纷上门道贺，并送去许多礼物。其中，一位老财主，不仅送去了丰厚的礼物，还承诺帮助秀才置办产业，好让他安心在家读书，准备下次科考。秀才却对老财主的帮助不屑一顾，认为老财主是别有用心，想利用他。他不仅拒绝了老财主的帮助，还言语刻薄地讽刺老财主。老财主见他如此不识抬举，气得拂袖而去。秀才最终也没有再考中，落了个一事无成的下场。
Once upon a time, there was a scholar who studied hard for many years and finally passed the examination to become a scholar-official. His neighbors were very happy for him and came to congratulate him, bringing many gifts. Among them, a wealthy landowner not only sent generous gifts, but also promised to help the scholar buy some property so that he could study at home with peace of mind and prepare for the next imperial examination. However, the scholar was not grateful and scorned the wealthy landowner’s help. He thought the landowner had ulterior motives, and was trying to exploit him. He not only rejected the landowner’s help, but also insulted him rudely. The wealthy landowner, seeing his ungratefulness, left angrily. In the end, the scholar failed the next examination and ended up achieving nothing.
