A metaphor for someone who is homeless and wandering around.
Origin Story
During the Spring and Autumn Period, the state of Jin attacked the state of Zheng, and Zheng lost the battle. Many people fled their homes and became homeless refugees. Among them was an elderly man who had lost his wife and children and was wandering alone in the wilderness. He was dressed in rags, his hair was unkempt and his face was dirty. He was so hungry that his eyes were sunken, like a stray dog, miserable and pitiful. He dragged his weary body and searched step by step for a place to settle down, but he never found a warm home or food to fill his hunger. He could only spend the cold nights in a ruined temple and live on the charity of passersby. His fate is heartbreaking and makes people understand the cruelty of war more deeply.
