Origin Story

During the Spring and Autumn period, King Zhuang of Chu attacked the state of Zheng. To save his state, the ruler of Zheng, Duke Xiang, humbled himself, appearing naked before King Zhuang to surrender. He assured King Zhuang that he would obey any command without question or resistance. Moved by Duke Xiang's sincerity, King Zhuang agreed to Zheng's plea for peace and withdrew his troops. This is the origin of the idiom "Weiming Sichong," highlighting Duke Xiang's determination and courage to completely submit for the safety of his state. This story also reflects that in certain situations, appropriate compromise and obedience are necessary for the greater good, but also cautions against blind obedience, urging the importance of independent thought.
