话说唐朝时期，有一位年轻的书生名叫李白，从小就才华横溢，诗词歌赋样样精通。有一天，他参加了朝廷举办的科举考试，为了这次考试，他准备了很久，夜以继日地苦读诗书，终于在考场上，他挥毫泼墨，写下了一篇惊天地泣鬼神的文章，考官们看了都赞不绝口，纷纷称赞李白是百年难得一见的奇才。考试结束后，李白怀揣着激动的心情走在回家的路上，一路上他都洋洋得意，仿佛整个世界都属于他一样，路过集市的时候，他看见一个小孩子在卖糖葫芦，他便停下来，买了一串糖葫芦，边走边吃。这时候他看到一个老乞丐坐在路边乞讨，老乞丐衣衫褴褛，蓬头垢面，看起来非常可怜，李白根本没有理睬他。继续洋洋得意地走着。这时，他看见一位老者也坐在路边，头发花白，慈眉善目，李白走过去，向老者行礼，老者见李白满面春风，洋洋得意，问他：“年轻人，你为何如此高兴？”李白洋洋得意地对老者说：“我参加了科举考试，考官们都说我写的文章好，夸我是百年难得一见的奇才。”老者听了李白的话，哈哈大笑，说：“年轻人，你不要太得意，这只是你人生中的一个阶段而已，要知道，人外有人，天外有天，以后的路还很长，你还有很多东西要学习。”说完便捋着胡须，笑了，李白听了老者的话，脸上露出了若有所思的表情。

After the examination, Li Bai walked home happily and proudly. He passed through the market and saw a small child selling candied haws. He stopped, bought a candied haw, and ate it on the way. Then he saw an old beggar begging on the roadside. The beggar was dressed in rags, had disheveled hair and a dirty face, and looked very poor. Li Bai did not pay any attention to him. He continued on his way, self-satisfied. Then he saw an old man sitting on the roadside, his hair white, and kind eyes. Li Bai went to him, bowed, and greeted him. The old man saw Li Bai, who was happy and satisfied, and asked him, "Young man, why are you so happy?" Li Bai proudly said to the old man, "I participated in the imperial examination, and the examiners all said that my essay was good, and they said that I was a once-in-a-century talent." The old man laughed and said, "Young man, don't be too self-satisfied, this is only one phase in your life. You must know that there is always someone better than you, and the road is still long, you still have a lot to learn." Then he stroked his beard and smiled. Li Bai listened to the old man's words and had a thoughtful expression.
