Origin Story
In the Tang Dynasty, there was a poet named Li Bai who was known for his outspoken nature and extraordinary talent. One day, he was having a gathering with his friends, and their conversation turned to the affairs of state. Li Bai admired wise rulers and hated corrupt officials. He openly and honestly criticized the government’s policies, denouncing the corruption and the suffering of the people. His friends were somewhat worried, but they were also deeply moved by Li Bai’s sincere and selfless spirit. Without any concealment, he spoke his mind, revealing the chivalrous spirit of a scholar. Word reached the palace, and while the emperor was angry at Li Bai’s outspokenness, he also admired his courage to speak the truth, regarding it as a sign of integrity. But Li Bai was later demoted, as he continued to speak frankly while intoxicated, at a royal banquet, resulting in further political friction.
