自行其是 Do things one's own way

指自己认为对的就做，不考虑别人的意见。形容人固执己见，不听取别人的劝告。

村里来了个木匠，手艺精湛，名声远扬。一天，村长请他帮忙修缮祠堂。木匠接下活儿，独自一人来到祠堂，仔细打量一番，便开始动手。他按照自己多年的经验，设计图纸，选取材料，一丝不苟地进行施工。村长几次来查看进度，想提出一些建议，都被木匠以“我经验丰富，你不用担心”婉拒。木匠全然不顾村长的意见，坚持自行其是。最终，祠堂修缮完成，却与村里的整体风格格格不入，甚至有些地方存在安全隐患。村长十分惋惜，木匠也为此后悔不已，深刻体会到“自行其是”的危害。
A skilled carpenter arrived in a village, renowned for his craftsmanship. The village headman commissioned him to repair the ancestral hall. The carpenter accepted and went to the hall alone. After careful observation, he began working, designing blueprints and selecting materials based on years of experience. The village headman visited several times to check the progress and offer suggestions, but the carpenter refused, claiming his expertise. He proceeded independently, ignoring advice. Upon completion, the hall clashed with the village's style and had safety issues. The headman was disappointed, the carpenter remorseful, learning the cost of 'doing things one's own way'.
