One year, he participated in the imperial examination, but failed, which was a great blow to him. In order to prove his ability, Zhang Lang decided to take a different path and create a masterpiece that would shock the capital. He worked day and night at his desk, forgetting to sleep and eat, and finally completed his work. He presented his work to the court, and unexpectedly received the emperor's appreciation and was appointed as a Hanlin scholar. Zhang Lang became famous from then on, he often recalled his experience of failing the examination, and was very proud of his achievements, often self-satisfied. He often boasted about his talent in front of his friends, and even became somewhat arrogant, causing his friends to shun him.
