It is said that King Zhou of Shang was tyrannical and unjust, and the people rebelled. King Wu of Zhou united with other feudal lords to attack King Zhou, and both sides engaged in a decisive battle at Muye. The battle was extremely brutal, corpses were scattered everywhere, and blood flowed like a river; even the pestles used for threshing rice were washed away and floated on the water, showing the cruelty of the war. In the end, King Wu of Zhou won the victory, the Shang dynasty was destroyed, and the Zhou dynasty was established. This war fully embodies the meaning of “blood flowed like a river”, and also warns future generations to learn from history and maintain peace.
