Origin Story
During the Warring States period, the Qin and Chu states were engaged in a long-term struggle for hegemony. The two states had accumulated deep resentment towards each other. Qin repeatedly attacked Chu, and Chu fought back fiercely, resulting in heavy losses on both sides. Eventually, Chu was unable to compete with Qin and was destroyed by it. However, the people of Chu did not surrender; they harbored deep hatred and vowed to never coexist with Qin. Generations of Chu people passed down this hatred until the rise of Xiang Yu, the Hegemon of Western Chu, briefly eased this deep-seated resentment. Xiang Yu led Chu’s army in a valiant fight against Qin and eventually destroyed the Qin dynasty, avenging Chu. But Xiang Yu’s victory was short-lived, and Chu declined again after the Chu-Han contention. The hatred between Qin and Chu remains etched in the annals of history.
