Origin Story
During the Spring and Autumn period, the ruler of the Wei state, Duke Zhuang, favored his son, Prince Zhouyu, and indulged his luxurious and debauched lifestyle. Prince Zhouyu thus became arrogant and did as he pleased. The minister Shi Bao repeatedly admonished Duke Zhuang, but Duke Zhuang did not listen. After the death of Duke Zhuang, Prince Zhouyu killed his brother, Duke Huan of Wei, and made himself ruler. He continued to live a life of luxury and debauchery, and was eventually killed by Shi Bao's plot, and the Wei state thus avoided a greater disaster. This story warns people that luxury and debauchery will bring bad consequences, and rulers should set an example, work diligently, and benefit the people.
