Unkempt
Explanation
"Unkempt" is an idiom that describes someone who does not pay attention to their clothes or appearance. It comes from ancient Chinese and originally described a person who is easygoing and does not conform to conventions, but now it is mostly used to describe someone who does not care about their appearance and seems rather slovenly.
Origin Story
During the Warring States period, there was a man named Su Qin. In order to persuade the princes, he dressed in tattered clothes, with messy hair and a dirty face. He looked very unkempt. But with his extraordinary intelligence and eloquence, he persuaded the princes of the various states, and eventually led to the alliance of the six states, contributing to the resistance against the powerful Qin state. Su Qin's success proves that being unkempt does not equate to incompetence. What matters is a person's inner talent and strength.
