不咎既往 bù jiù jì wǎng Let bygones be bygones

不咎既往,指不追究过去的过错。通常用于宽容待人,或表示对过去错误的谅解。

Not blaming the past means not pursuing past mistakes. It is usually used to be tolerant of others, or to show understanding of past mistakes.

Origin Story

话说唐朝时期,一位名叫李白的诗人,因卷入政治斗争而被流放。流放途中,他多次触犯法令,但他才华横溢,深受皇帝赏识。皇帝深知他本性善良,一时糊涂,最终下旨赦免了他,不咎既往。李白得以重回朝廷,继续他的诗歌创作,为唐朝文化增添了浓墨重彩的一笔。

During the Tang Dynasty, a poet named Li Bai was exiled because of his involvement in political struggles. During his exile, he repeatedly violated the law. However, his talent was outstanding, and he was highly appreciated by the emperor. The emperor knew that he was inherently kind and had made a momentary mistake. Finally, he issued an edict to pardon him and not blame the past. Li Bai was able to return to the court and continue his poetic creation, adding a rich and colorful stroke to the Tang Dynasty culture.

Usage

用于宽恕别人的过错,不再追究。常用于处理矛盾和纠纷。

yongyu kuānshù biérén de guòcuò, bù zài zhuījiū. cháng yòng yú chǔlǐ máodùn hé jiūfēn.

Used to forgive someone's mistakes and not pursue them any further. Often used to resolve conflicts and disputes.
