Origin Story
薛蟠仗势欺人，与酒保发生冲突，失手打死了酒保，被官府捉拿归案。薛家上下十分着急，赶紧凑钱托薛蝌去打点关系，想把薛蟠捞出来。薛蝌费尽周折，终于使薛蟠被判为过失杀人，只是事情还没完全了结，薛蟠还得在牢里待一段时间。薛蝌回到家中，薛蟠的妻子金桂与小妾宝蟾，借送酒菜慰劳薛蝌为名，暗中对他百般勾引，薛蝌却讨厌这种鬼鬼祟祟，不尴不尬的行为，装作没看见，置之不理。他心里清楚，薛家的事情已够让人烦的了，自己再沾惹上这种麻烦事，岂不是雪上加霜吗？
Xue Pan, known for his arrogance and bullying, got into a conflict with an innkeeper and accidentally killed him. He was arrested. His family was frantic and quickly gathered money to send Xue Ke to smooth things over and get Xue Pan released. Xue Ke went to great lengths, and Xue Pan was eventually convicted of manslaughter, but the case wasn't entirely closed. Xue Pan still had to spend time in jail. Back home, Xue Pan’s wife, Jin Gui, and his concubine, Bao Chan, tried to seduce Xue Ke under the pretext of offering him food and drink, but Xue Ke hated this sneaky, awkward behavior and ignored them. He knew that the family's affairs were already troublesome enough, and he did not want to add more problems.
