Origin Story

During the Spring and Autumn Period, there was a monarch of the Qi state named Duke Zhuang. He had a minister named Yan Ying, known for his wisdom and talent. Once, the Qi state was invaded by an external enemy, and the situation was critical. At that time, there was an illegitimate prince in the Qi state named Rang Ju, who, although extraordinarily talented, had always been neglected and insignificant due to his humble background. But Yan Ying recognized his talents and recommended Rang Ju to Duke Zhuang. Duke Zhuang, considering the survival of the state, appointed Rang Ju as a general. But Duke Zhuang worried that Rang Ju's low status would make it difficult for him to convince the people, so he sent a powerful minister as a military inspector to supervise Rang Ju. After taking office, Rang Ju was not at all affected by the military inspector's influence. He decisively killed the arrogant military inspector to deter others and establish his prestige, then prepared the army for war, and ultimately won the war. For his merits in this war, Rang Ju was appointed as Grand Marshal. This story shows that even if one is insignificant and without influence, one can still make a difference if one is talented and courageous.
