During the Warring States period, the future Duke Wen of Jin, Chong'er, was exiled and suffered greatly. Once, he was pursued by his enemies and hid in a cave. His enemies aggressively blocked the entrance to the cave and threatened to kill him. Though Chong'er was in danger, he remained firm in his heart. Without panic, he brought out the food and water he had prepared, ate and drank, and pondered. His enemies hesitated when they saw him so calm. Chong'er seized the opportunity and calmly spoke to his enemies about his experiences in exile and his plans for the future of the country. His words were sincere and wise. His enemies were impressed by his demeanor and broad-mindedness and finally abandoned their plan to kill him. After this event, Chong'er sighed: “Though I am in adversity, I have no fear of running out of words. If one wants to falsely accuse someone, they will always find a reason.”
