Origin Story

三国时期，东吴大将吕蒙在孙权的鼓励下开始勤奋学习。一段时间后，鲁肃前来视察，吕蒙向他详细地阐述了军事战略，并提出许多建设性的意见。鲁肃惊讶于吕蒙的才智，不禁感叹道：“士别三日，当刮目相待！”这个故事说明了人只要努力学习，就能取得巨大的进步，让人刮目相待。

Sānguó shíqī, Dōngwú dàjiàng Lǚméng zài Sūn Quán de gǔlì xià kāishǐ qínfèn xuéxí. Yīduàn shíjiān hòu, Lǔsù qǐng lái shìchá, Lǚméng xiàng tā xiángxì de chǎnshù le jūnshì zhànlüè, bìng tíchū xǔduō jiànshèxìng de yìjiàn. Lǔsù jīngyà yú Lǚméng de cáizhì, bùjīn gǎntàn dào: “Shì bié sān rì, dāng guā mù xiāng dài!” zhège gùshì shuōmíng le rén zhǐyào nǔlì xuéxí, jiù néng qǔdé jùdà de jìnbù, ràng rén guā mù xiāng dài.

During the Three Kingdoms period, Lü Meng, a general of Eastern Wu, began to study diligently under the encouragement of Sun Quan. After some time, Lu Su came to inspect, and Lü Meng explained to him in detail the military strategy and put forward many constructive opinions. Lu Su was surprised by Lü Meng's talent and could not help sighing: "If you don't see each other for three days, you should look at each other with new eyes!" This story shows that as long as people work hard to learn, they can make great progress and make people look at each other with new eyes.

Usage

用于赞扬取得巨大进步的人，也用于形容对人的看法发生了很大改变。

yòng yú zànyáng qǔdé jùdà jìnbù de rén, yě yòng yú xiárong duì rén de kànfǎ fāshēng le hěn dà gǎibiàn

Used to praise people who have made great progress, and also to describe that one's view of a person has changed greatly.
