Origin Story
In the Tang Dynasty, there was a poet named Li Bai who traveled far and wide and wrote many immortal poems. One day, Li Bai came to a beautiful valley, where countless flowers bloomed in all colors. Red like fire, purple like clouds, yellow like gold, and white like snow, flowers of all colors bloomed together, forming a breathtaking scene of thousands of reds and tens of thousands of purples. Li Bai was so enchanted by the beauty of the scene that he spontaneously recited a poem: “Thousands of shades of red and tens of thousands of purples, the mountains are ablaze with brilliant colors, birdsong and flowers intoxicate the mind.” This poem later became the source of the idiom “Thousands of reds and tens of thousands of purples”. Since then, “Thousands of reds and tens of thousands of purples” has been used to describe the variety and beauty of flowers, and figuratively the variety of things in general.
