Origin Story
During the reign of Emperor Wu of Han, a minister was executed for a crime, and his family was distraught. Emperor Wu, however, maintained the dignity of the law, refusing to show favoritism. This caused considerable debate, with some criticizing Emperor Wu's harshness. Then Dongfang Shuo stepped forward, defending Emperor Wu, stating, “Your Majesty's actions serve the people. Rewards and punishments are clearly defined, and justice is served. This is a great fortune for the nation!” After reflecting on this, Emperor Wu accepted Dongfang Shuo's reasoning. From then on, Emperor Wu placed an even stronger emphasis on fairness and justice, clearly defining rewards and punishments, thus leading to the nation's prosperity.
