Explanation
吴下：指江苏苏州地区；阿蒙：指吕蒙，三国时东吴名将。吴下阿蒙指在吴地时才疏学浅的吕蒙。后比喻人学识浅薄。
Wu Xia: refers to the area around Suzhou in Jiangsu; A Meng: refers to Lü Meng, a famous general of the Wu kingdom during the Three Kingdoms period. Wu Xia A Meng refers to Lü Meng who had little knowledge during his time in Wu. It was later used as a metaphor for someone with little education.
Origin Story
三国时期，孙权劝说吕蒙要多读书，吕蒙开始发奋苦读。后来，鲁肃来到吕蒙的驻地，与吕蒙讨论军事，发现吕蒙的见识已经大为提高，大为惊叹地说：“你已经不是从前的吴下阿蒙了！”这个故事说明了学习的重要性，以及人是可以改变自己的。吕蒙从一个武夫，变成了一个文武双全的人才。
During the Three Kingdoms period, Sun Quan persuaded Lü Meng to read more, and Lü Meng began to study diligently. Later, Lu Su came to Lü Meng's garrison and discussed military affairs with him. He found that Lü Meng's knowledge had greatly improved, and exclaimed in amazement: “You are no longer the former Wu Xia A Meng!” This story illustrates the importance of learning and that people can change themselves. Lü Meng transformed from a warrior into a versatile talent.
Usage
通常用来形容一个人以前学识浅薄，后来经过学习变得有学识了。
It is usually used to describe that someone used to have little knowledge, but later became educated through learning.
