Origin Story

It is said that during the Tang Dynasty, there was a poet immortal named Li Bai. He was a man of unrestrained energy and extraordinary talent, but also a hot temper. One day, he was drinking and celebrating with his friends, and they got into an argument over a trivial matter. As a man of strong character, his anger immediately flared up. His eyes widened, his face turned red, and he pointed at his friend and roared, "How dare you argue with me?!" His voice was so loud that it was deafening, like a thunderclap. His friend was so scared that his face turned pale, and he dared not speak any more. Since then, "páoxiāo rú léi" has become a common idiom.
