春秋时期，鲁国有个贤人叫柳下惠。有一天晚上，他到朋友家做客，途中遇到一位年轻女子，她衣衫褴褛，瑟瑟发抖，显然很冷。柳下惠看到她孤苦无依的样子，便把她带到自己温暖的家里。寒风凛冽，大雪纷飞，柳下惠让女子坐在自己的怀里取暖，用自己的衣服紧紧地裹住她。一整夜，柳下惠都保持着与她之间适当的距离，没有越雷池一步，直到天明，女子安然无恙地离开了。柳下惠的这种行为，被后人传为佳话，成为“坐怀不乱”的典范。
During the Spring and Autumn period, there was a wise man in Lu named Liu Xia Hui. One night, he was visiting a friend and met a young woman on the way, who was wearing torn clothes and trembling with cold. Seeing her destitute appearance, Liu Xia Hui took her to his warm house. The wind howled, and heavy snow fell, so Liu Xia Hui let the woman warm herself in his arms, wrapping his clothes tightly around her. For the whole night, Liu Xia Hui maintained a proper distance from her and did not overstep the line, until the woman left safely at dawn. Liu Xia Hui's behavior has become a good story for posterity and a model of "sitting in one's lap without being disorderly".
