从前，在一个偏僻的小村庄里，住着一对老夫妻，他们靠种田为生。有一天，村里来了个财主，看中了老夫妻的一块地，想低价买下。老夫妻知道财主是个蛮横不讲理的人，于是便装聋作哑，任凭财主如何劝说，他们就是不回应，财主见他们装聋作哑，气急败坏，最终只能无奈地离开了。老夫妻保住了自己的土地，但也因此得罪了财主，日子过得更加艰难了。后来，村里人知道了事情的经过，纷纷赞扬老夫妻的聪明和勇气，帮助他们度过了难关。这个故事告诉我们，在面对强权时，有时沉默也是一种反抗，但也要做好承受后果的准备。
Once upon a time, in a remote village, lived an elderly couple who made their living by farming. One day, a wealthy landlord came to the village and took a fancy to a piece of land owned by the couple, wanting to buy it at a low price. The elderly couple knew that the landlord was an unreasonable and overbearing person, so they pretended to be deaf and mute. No matter how much the landlord persuaded them, they would not respond. Seeing their feigned deafness and mutism, the landlord became furious and could only leave in frustration. The elderly couple saved their land but also offended the landlord, making their lives more difficult. Later, when the villagers learned of the incident, they praised the couple's wisdom and courage, helping them through their difficulties. This story teaches us that when facing power, sometimes silence is a form of resistance, but one must also be prepared to accept the consequences.
